My first bookshelf entry..woohoot!
I am sure when many of you think of Art Theory your first instinct is to roll your eyes, well…rightfully so. I am here to change that reaction!
This has become one of my favorite books for light travel reading as well as in-depth references. The chapters are divided into the 6 major periods of western art history: Antiquity and the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque, the Enlightenment, the 19th Century, early 20th century Modernism, and Postmodernism.
Unlike some theory books out there that are hard to follow because the author write like its a 400 page grad thesis ::cough:: Terry Barrett ::end cough:: Williams uses simplistic terminology and interpretations for all readers to understand. (I also love that the chapters are distinct periods making it easy to start and stop as if they were separate books.)
